Scripture
“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” — Ephesians 4:26 (NIV)
Devotional
Anger is a powerful emotion. Sometimes it comes from being hurt, misunderstood, disappointed, or treated unfairly. God knows that we will experience anger because He created our emotions. The problem is not feeling angry—it is allowing anger to control our words, actions, and hearts.
When we carry anger for too long, it becomes heavy. It steals our peace, damages our relationships, and distracts us from the joy God wants us to experience. Holding onto bitterness is like carrying a heavy backpack everywhere we go. It wears us down.
God invites us to bring our anger to Him instead of letting it rule us. He listens without judgment. He understands our pain. As we pray, He gently replaces bitterness with peace, resentment with forgiveness, and frustration with wisdom.
Forgiveness does not always mean forgetting what happened or pretending it didn’t hurt. Sometimes it simply means choosing to trust God with the situation instead of allowing anger to keep us trapped.
Today, ask God to search your heart. If there is anger you’ve been carrying, place it in His hands. He is able to heal wounds that no one else can see and give you the strength to respond with grace.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You know the hurts and disappointments that have stirred anger within my heart. Help me not to let that anger control my thoughts, words, or actions. Fill me with Your peace and give me the strength to forgive where forgiveness is needed. Teach me to respond with love, patience, and wisdom, even when it is difficult. Thank You for Your mercy and for the healing You bring to my heart.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
