Some days are quiet. Other days become stories you’ll laugh about for years.
Recently, my little baby chicken “Peepers” decided she was ready for an adventure.
Somehow, she learned how to escape her cage through the top where it opens and before I knew it, she was happily exploring my RV. I was trying to figure out exactly how I was going to finally catch her.
Now, if you know me, you know this wasn’t an easy task. Because of my disability, I wear AFO braces on both of my legs and feet, so I can’t move quickly.
Every time I thought I was getting close, my little feathered escape artist would hear me coming and dash off in another direction.
For two hours, we played what felt like the world’s slowest game of tag. She was fast, curious, and completely convinced this was the greatest game ever invented.
Meanwhile, I was determined not to let her outsmart me forever.
I’ll admit there were moments when I wondered if she planned on living outside from now on!
But I wasn’t ready to give up.
Eventually, patience won. After two hours of chasing, planning, and waiting for just the right moment, I finally managed to catch her.
I have never been so relieved to hold such a tiny little bird in my hands.
As exhausting as it was, I couldn’t help but laugh afterward. Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan, and the best thing we can do is keep trying until we succeed.
This little adventure reminded me that perseverance often matters more than speed.
My baby chicken may have won plenty of rounds that day, but in the end, we both made it safely home.
I’m pretty sure she’s already planning her next escape. I’m already wondering how to “chicken-proof” her cage or find her a new one.
A Little Lesson from a Little Chicken
Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons through unexpected moments. We may face obstacles that slow us down, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop.
Patience, determination, and a little sense of humor can carry us farther than we imagine.
