There are days when I sit down at my computer, open a manuscript, and begin writing, and a thought quietly crosses my mind:
I wish my grandpa and Uncle Chris could see me now.
Not because I need applause. Not because I need recognition.
But because they believed in me long before I had anything to show for it.
They believed in me when I made the decision to go back to school and pursue a writing career.
They believed in me when the dream was still taking shape. They believed in me when success was uncertain and the future was unclear.
Today, as I look at the books I’ve written, the website I’ve built, and the career I’ve created through writing, I often wonder what they would say.
I think they would be proud.
The Gift of Belief
One of the greatest gifts someone can give another person is belief.
My grandfather gave me that gift.
When I decided to return to school, he didn’t laugh at my dream or tell me it was impossible. Instead, he supported me in a practical and meaningful way.
He bought me a computer.
At the time, it may have seemed like a simple purchase, but it was so much more than that. That computer became a tool that helped me complete assignments, write papers, develop stories, and pursue the future I envisioned.
Every page I wrote carried a piece of his support with it.
My uncle Chris showed his belief in me as well.
He helped me with my car so I could continue moving forward on my educational journey. He understood that pursuing a dream requires more than determination—it often requires people willing to help along the way.
Both of them invested in my future.
Neither asked for anything in return.
They simply wanted to see me succeed.
The Hardest Part
Life has a way of reminding us how precious time really is.
Sadly, both my grandfather and Uncle Chris passed away before I finished college and before my writing career truly began to flourish.
That reality still hurts.
There are moments when I wish I could pick up the phone and tell them about a new book release. I wish I could show them my websites, my journals, my devotionals, and the stories I’ve published.
I wish they could see that the little dream they encouraged grew into something real.
Most of all, I wish I could thank them one more time.
Carrying Their Legacy Forward
Although they are no longer here physically, their influence remains.
Every time I write, I carry a piece of their encouragement with me.
Every book I publish reflects the support they gave me.
Every goal I achieve stands on a foundation they helped build.
The computer my grandfather bought represented faith in my future.
The help Uncle Chris provided represented faith in my journey.
Those acts of kindness became stepping stones that helped me reach where I am today.
Their legacy lives on through every word I write.
Until We Meet Again
As a person of faith, I hold onto hope.
I believe that death is not the end of the story.
I believe there will come a day when we are reunited with those we love.
And when that day comes, I look forward to telling my grandfather and Uncle Chris everything.
I want to tell them about the books.
I want to tell them about the readers.
I want to tell them about the dreams that came true.
Most importantly, I want to tell them that their support mattered.
That their encouragement changed a life.
That the seeds they planted continued to grow long after they were gone.
Final Thoughts
If you are fortunate enough to have someone who believes in your dreams, cherish them.
And if you’ve lost someone who once encouraged you, remember this:
Their love doesn’t disappear.
Their influence doesn’t vanish.
The lessons they taught, the kindness they showed, and the faith they placed in you become part of who you are.
Today, I miss my grandfather and Uncle Chris.
I miss their voices, their encouragement, and their presence.
But I am grateful.
Grateful that they believed in me.
Grateful that they supported my education.
Grateful that they helped me pursue a dream that became a career.
And grateful for the hope that one day, I will see them again.
Until then, I’ll keep writing.
And with every page, I’ll carry their memory with me.
With love & light,
