For the longest time, I believed I had to be strong all the time.
I thought if I just prayed hard enough or had “more faith,” I wouldn’t struggle so much mentally or emotionally. But after walking through cancer, chronic pain, and the dark valleys of depression, I’ve come to understand something life-changing:
God deeply cares about our mental health.
Not just our spiritual well-being. Not just our physical healing.
Our minds matter to Him, too.
🧠 The Silent Struggle
Mental health challenges often feel invisible.
We smile on the outside while crumbling on the inside.
We keep showing up, even when we’re exhausted and numb.
And too often, we suffer in silence—especially in faith communities where we’re taught to “just trust God and keep going.”
But here’s the truth:
Struggling mentally does not mean you’re weak. It doesn’t mean your faith is broken. It means you’re human—and in need of care.
✝️ What the Bible Says
Scripture shows us that God understands emotional pain. Just look at these powerful reminders:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 Even Jesus wept. He felt grief, loneliness, and deep sorrow (John 11:35).
God never asks us to pretend we’re okay. Instead, He invites us to bring Him our burdens—even the ones in our minds.
💬 When I Couldn’t Pray
There were times during my cancer journey when I couldn’t even form the words to pray. I was too overwhelmed. Too broken. But I’ve learned that God doesn’t need perfect prayers—He just wants our presence.
He met me in the silence.
In the sleepless nights.
In the moments when I had nothing left but a whisper: “Help me.”
And He helped me. Through counselors. Through supportive friends. Through medication. Through His Word.
God works through both miracles and mental health resources. They are not in conflict—they are a gift.
💖 Faith and Therapy Can Coexist
Seeking therapy or taking medication doesn’t make you less faithful. It means you’re choosing to heal.
Just like we go to the doctor for physical pain, it’s okay—more than okay—to seek help for emotional pain.
God can work through Christian counselors, support groups, honest conversations, and quiet moments of reflection. I’ve experienced that firsthand in my support group, Dragon Strong Circle, where we hold space for mental and emotional healing, not just physical recovery.
🌿 You Are Not Alone
If you’re struggling right now—mentally, emotionally, or spiritually—please know this:
God sees you. God loves you. And He wants you to heal.
It’s okay to rest.
It’s okay to cry.
It’s okay to ask for help.
Let’s break the silence and the stigma. Let’s be the kind of community that prays and listens, that loves and checks in, that speaks truth and walks alongside those in the dark.
Your mental health matters to God—and to me, too.
With compassion and hope,
Crystal Amon
