Good News, Grateful Heart, and a Scene-Stealing Service Dog

Today’s doctor visit brought a lot of emotions—relief, gratitude, and a healthy dose of laughter, thanks to my trusty service dog, Tidbit.

First, the best part: my blood pressure was perfect, and my A1C is down! For anyone managing type 2 diabetes, you know how much those numbers mean. They’re not just numbers—they’re progress, dedication, and a whole lot of little decisions made every day. Seeing that improvement lit up my entire spirit.

I also have a Pap smear scheduled for next month to check for any recurrence of cervical cancer.

That part always carries a bit of nervous energy, but I’m staying grounded in hope and prayer. One day, one test at a time.

Now, let’s talk about Tidbit. If you’ve ever met her, you already know she’s more than a service dog—she’s a little furry beam of joy. She came with me today and, in true Tidbit fashion, completely stole the show. Patients, nurses, even my doctor couldn’t resist her charm. She made the entire visit feel lighter, which is such a gift in medical spaces that can feel heavy.

Of course, in true me fashion, the blood draw was a bit of a struggle. I’m what they call a “hard stick,” thanks to the toll chemo has taken on my veins. The nurses were patient and kind, and we got through it—but I swear they deserve a gold star for their effort. Or maybe just some extra treats from Tidbit.

Today was one of those days where the good outweighed the tough. Where the numbers gave me hope. Where my little sidekick made strangers smile. And where I walked away feeling stronger than I did walking in.

If you’re reading this and you’re walking through your own health journey, I hope you find your version of a perfect BP reading, a drop in your A1C, or a Tidbit to bring you joy.

Because even in the hard, there’s still so much to be thankful for.
