I began having several symptoms of something being wrong in my bottom area. I was continually bleeding and had severe pain in my abdomen. Thankfully, I went to the hospital and had several tests which concluded that I had advanced cervical cancer.
On December 2, 2002, I started my experimental and aggressive cancer treatment for cervical cancer stage 2B. I spent every other week in the hospital receiving two different kinds of chemotherapy pumping in my veins.
One chemotherapy was Cisplatin and the other was 5 FU or Fluorouracil . Additionally, I was asked to report for over four months of conventional radiation. Three times, I was taken to surgery to receive brachytherapy which was surgically placed by the radiation doctor.
Usually, the brachytherapy surgery was performed when I was in the hospital for a week getting chemotherapy. I am so thankful that the painful experimental treatment worked and I am completely cancer free now.
It has been over 20 years since my experimental and aggressive cancer treatment. I still have pain from the treatment but I am thankful for every new day I am given. Honestly, I am so very thankful for the numerous nurses and doctors who took care of me during my aggressive cancer treatment.
During my treatment, I decided to go back to school and get my high school diploma. Then, I decided to go for my four year college degree in Communications. I began working as a freelance writer not long after my treatment was done.
Right now, I would tell a woman to keep up with all your Pap smear appointments. Then, follow all your doctor’s recommendations as needed. This disease is a silent killer and symptoms don’t start until the cancer is already advanced.
Be sure to schedule your own appointment today!
