Some days start out normal… until they don’t.
If you live with severe neuropathy, you already know what I mean.
There are days when the pain in your legs whispers, days when it nags, and days—like today—when it screams loud enough to drown out everything else.
Today was one of those high-pain days.
The kind where simply standing feels like fire.
The kind where every step feels like walking on broken nerves.
The kind where even the braces meant to help—my AFOs—end up hurting so much that I have to take them off just to breathe through the pain.
I think people imagine “pain” and picture something simple. But neuropathy pain is different. It’s a burning, stabbing, electric current running through your legs while you’re trying to do normal things like getting dressed, cooking, or cleaning. Even basic tasks feel like marathons.
Trying to Function When Your Body Says “No”
I still had responsibilities today. Things to do. Places to be. Life doesn’t pause when chronic pain flares up. So I did what I could:
I grabbed my medications—Suboxone, ibuprofen, and gabapentin—hoping they would take the edge off long enough for me to function like a human being instead of feeling like a bundle of raw nerves.
But even with medication, some days are just… heavy.
And nobody really talks about that part—the guilt of not being able to move the way you want to, the frustration of feeling slowed down by your own body, the emotional weight that comes with physical pain.
But Here’s the Truth I’m Learning
A high-pain day doesn’t mean you’re weak.
It means your body is fighting a battle other people can’t see.
Taking a break isn’t quitting.
Resting isn’t laziness.
Adjusting your plans isn’t failure.
It’s survival.
It’s wisdom.
It’s honoring your body even when it’s hurting.
To Anyone Living With Pain Too
I see you.
I understand how isolating it can feel.
I know how discouraging it is to have your day reshaped by pain you didn’t choose.
But your strength isn’t measured by how much pain you can push through. Your strength is the fact that you’re still here, still trying, still fighting, even when your legs are burning and your nerves feel like they’re on fire.
Today was a high-pain day… but I made it through.
And if you’re reading this while dealing with your own pain, I pray you find a moment of comfort, rest, and relief—right where you are.
With love and light,
