When Healing Comes Wrapped in Fur

I didn’t plan to write about a spoiled little chihuahua named Little Bit. She trotted onto the page one winter afternoon, bold as anything, and refused to leave. Before I knew it, her tiny paws were leading me into a story I didn’t even know my heart needed to tell.

At its center is Ella, a teenage girl who’s lost everything but her small dog and her will to keep breathing. Her story isn’t clean or easy—it’s tender, raw, and filled with the slow kind of hope that takes its time arriving.

But it’s also full of light: the laughter of a foster family that loves her without condition, the warmth of a home that doesn’t ask her to be okay first, and the quiet miracles that happen when grief meets grace.

We don’t talk enough about the in-between—the space between heartbreak and healing. That’s where this story lives. It’s for anyone who’s ever stood at the edge of faith and whispered, “I want to believe again, but I don’t know how.”

Sometimes, love shows up wearing a red dog sweater.

Sometimes, it smells like cinnamon and coffee and the safety of being seen.

And sometimes, the smallest creature in the room carries the biggest lesson: that you are still worthy of joy.

So if this season finds you weary, may you be reminded—

You are not forgotten.

The light still finds its way home.

And miracles, like Little Bit, have a habit of showing up right when we stop expecting them.
