To the Writer Wrestling With the Work

Dear Friend,

Let’s be honest: writing isn’t always romantic. It isn’t always coffee shops and flowing inspiration. More often, it’s staring at a blinking cursor, wrestling with words that refuse to come, and wondering if it’s even worth it.

I want you to know — you’re not alone in that struggle.

Discipline Over Inspiration

Inspiration is wonderful, but it can be fickle. Discipline, however, shows up whether the muse does or not. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is sit down, open the page, and write one stubborn sentence. That one sentence might be enough to open the door for the next.

Doubt Will Knock

Every writer hears the same voice: “This isn’t good enough.” The secret isn’t silencing it once and for all — it’s learning to write anyway. Doubt doesn’t get the final say. You do.

Writer’s Block Isn’t the End

When the words feel stuck, it’s not proof that you’ve failed. It’s usually a sign you need rest, a walk, or a new perspective. Sometimes the best writing happens after you’ve stepped away and let life breathe new stories into you.

My Hope for You

I hope you keep writing even when it’s hard. I hope you give yourself grace on the dry days and celebrate the small wins on the fruitful ones. I hope you remember that writing is not about perfection, but persistence. And persistence, over time, will carry you further than you imagine.

So to the writer wrestling with the work: keep going. The struggle doesn’t disqualify you. It’s proof you’re in the fight, and that means you’re already becoming the writer you’re meant to be.
